What is the rule of thumb for changing from a pediatric to adult circuit. We use adult circuits for patients over 20 kg and pediatric circuits for patients between 6-20 kg. Any comments.
this is somewhat gray area discussion and in busy rt dept. serving both adult and infant/pediatric patients we want to be guided correctly. Brian could be right but someone could also mention compressible volume and deadspace that's why we need infant/paeds/adult tubings... Personally since our hospital uses humidification and from prior mentor, humidifier size can also help in compressible volume. I welcome other comments.
