What is the rule of thumb for changing from a pediatric to adult circuit. We use adult circuits for patients over 20 kg and pediatric circuits for patients between 6-20 kg.
Any comments.

Hello, I am just curious to know why you think there is no need for pediatric circuits??

Thanks,

this is somewhat gray area discussion and in busy rt dept. serving both adult and infant/pediatric patients we want to be guided correctly. Brian could be right but someone could also mention compressible volume and deadspace that's why we need infant/paeds/adult tubings... Personally since our hospital uses humidification and from prior mentor, humidifier size can also help in compressible volume. I welcome other comments.
