Avea with Volume Guarantee?

We are currently trialing the Avea with Volume Guarantee (VG) mode in our unit. The representative explained that when using the ventilator in VG mode in the Advance setting hidden above the Volume setting in for e.g. TCPL AC mode an Insp. Pressure can be set. He explained that this is a "back-up pressure". But I am not quite sure what he means by back-up pressure? Maybe someone could explain it a bit better please? Secondly how would one wean a patient in the VG mode? Except for Fio2 off course! We mostly ventilate our patients in TCPL AC (I work in a Neonatal ICU). We would normally wean the Fio2 and Insp. Pressure to minimal setting and then extubate either to CPAP or Nasal Prongs. How would a person approach weaning in TCPL AC with VG?
Thanks in advance for the replies….

For example, if the flow sensor, which reads the volume is removed, this pressure maintains ventilation at the preset level. It also acts as a starting point for the VG sequence
