We have adopted the policy to use an alcohol bath on our Servoi cassets. However, how often is the alcohol to be changed out. And does anyone have a policy to share on this topic?

Hello Recently, increase water accumulation in Servo I circuits. To the point, changing filter every 3 hours. Exp cassette autoclaved between patients. Do you use water traps in heated wire circuits? What else could be causing this increase in water accumulation??

We use HEPA filters between the expiratory limb and the exhalation cassette. They get changed when full of water (every 12-24 hrs). We stand the cassettes on end to drain between patients then send them to our central sterile processing department. We have had only a few problems with water in the cassettes, but only on relatively large babies with high rates and high minute volumes in combination with positioning near air conditioning vents... BTW there have been a few reports to the FDA on the same issue: http://www.accessdata.fda.gov/...m?mdrfoi__id=1883989 http://www.accessdata.fda.gov/...m?mdrfoi__id=1840008 Luis Mosos, RRT-NPS Perinatal Therapist Neonatal ICU St. Mary's Medical Center West Palm Beach, FL
