Ventilator facility in East Texas
My mom has a trach and is on the vent in an LTAC and we are looking for a rehabilitation facility near Tyler Texas that accepts ventilator patients. I know of Crest Care in Longview but was hoping there was one in Tyler. Does anyone know? Please e-mail sr_setliff@comcast.net

Hi Cynbass,
My mother ended up in Celina. The home was atrocious. My father and I took an apartment there and cared for mom from 8am-8pm until the home was closed by the state. There is a place in Garland Texas (very near Dallas) and there is another near Amarillo but I don't remember the city. I found one in LongView Texas as well (near Tyler) but they require the sending facility to sign a document stating that they will take the patient back if they go on dialysis - regardless of whether the patient has ever had kidney problems. Most facilities will not sign this document. I hope you found what you need. As for us, we took mom home and she is getting the loving care she needs.

Thank you SW this is great data. We recomend a visit and close scrutiny of any facility before deciding to move there. Any update to this data for Texas or any other geographical area is always needed. If you have a good LT Vent program out there in a SNF or SNU that has openings please let this forum know.

Just an update for anyone thinking of the San Antonio area. The only facility left in town that provides vent services is Meridian Care. They seem to be a well ran organization and offer weaning services. This is especially helpful to us. You can check them out on their web site:www.http//meridiancaresa.com. Hope this helps.

There is a ventilator unit in Longview TX. Currently it is full but is expanding. Ventilator units are few and far between. I am the Respiratory Director at crest care. We take care of longterm vents and also wean.

There are no facilites in Tyler. Crestcare is really the closest. The next closet would be in Garland outside of Dallas.

The above homes are not vent certified with the required RT's and RRT's. All homes can take a few vent residents, but not be a vent certified home to take more than five on vents. As a former Licensed Social Worker and a Licensed Nursing Home Administrator, I know something about this. Community Care Center of Garland has a vent unit with about 60 available beds and is staffed with RT's who do a fantastic job. Administration is the main problem. Bottom line is the main objective regardless of the impact on the residents. Longview, in my opinion, is the best.

Mr. Trump. I am the D.O.N. at Valley Grande Manor in Brownsville Texas. We are certified with RT / RTT's. 24-7. As of 3 weeks ago VGM now is offering Vent/Dialysis in-house (we have 20 beds set aside for vent/dialysis). WE are one of the few nursing homes in the United States that now offer this service, and as far as I know the only one in the 5 state area. We average about 25 vents beds and about 15 open trachs.
The wound care nurses are Wound Care Specialist and we staff w/c 7 days a week. Please check out our web site at WWW.ValleyGrandeManor.com for more information or give me a call at 956-546-4568. Thanks, Eddiec
