Aerosolized Heparin
Similar to the previous discussion, but I was wondering if anyone has used used aerosolized heparin for their burn/smoke inhalation patients? I have seen it used but its difficult to see the gains with these patient populations. I'd love to hear if other hosptals use this approach as well.

we have a regional burn center and for inhalation injuries confirmed by bronchoscopy, we have a heparin, mucomyst protocol. We alternate the usage of 10000units(adults) (5000units for pediatrics) of heparin mixed with saline and albuterol and mycomyst. This requires Q2 hour treatments for 7 days. If they are extubated before then it is dced. It works really well to keep casts from causing obstruction.
