Can anyone explain to me the criteria for the FDA classification of Mid range Vents. I recently was inserviced by a respironics rep who was stating it to be an acute care Vent. Isn't this for the non critical care patients?

I too have been inserviced on the ESPRIT vent. Our facility listened to the rep and moved on. Only after working a few places on my off day with MSN did I finally work with the vent. The work place setting was a 18 bed "specialty care" floor at a local hospital here in San Antonio. One of the worst vents I have ever worked with to be honest with you.

To answer your question though, I think the reps are just finding fancy ways to sell a vent. Acute care to me would be Trauma/ED, ICU, SICU, and various other places other than long term.
