If your vents. don't have aprv ,but you do have the pressure control capabilities, can biphasic positive airway pressure achieve the same goal as APRV.

If your vent has Pressure Control in SIMV mode AND has a "free breathing" exhalation valve, then you should be able to mimic exactly what APRV does. The only problem would be if the PC SIMV software doesn't allow the settings. If one is using a short Time Low the SIMV window might extend it too long.

Try it out on a test lung and let us know. Tell us which vent you're using.


Try setting PC Ti 4 seconds. exp time 0.5 seconds and let us know.
